| Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: What is RAID Card and what is a RAID system?
A: RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. Its a storage system using multiple Hard Disk Drives (HDD) to share or to replicate data among the drives, allowing different options of configurations for performance and/or for redundant operations.
Q: What are the different types or levels of RAID and what can they offer?
A: Different implementations of RAID require a minimum number of HDDs and is classified into levels;
RAID0 - Provides basic data striping for improved performance. No redundancy is offered in this level.
Min 2 HDDs required
RAID1 - Provides basic redundancy by mirroring data onto two HDDs.
Min 2 HDDs required
RAID5 - Provides redundancy and improved performance by data striping with distributed parity.
Min 3 HDDs required
RAID6 - Provides better redundancy and improved performance by data striping with dual parity. It is also able to sustain multiple drives failure and has a very high data fault tolerance.
Min 4 HDDs required |
